The Importance of Writing
Through “writing,” students enhance their integrative thinking and experience emotional development. However, writing activities within the school curriculum are often controlled towards writing answers to problems with prescribed formats and model answers. To allow students to exert autonomy and find enjoyment in writing, free creative activities should be provided.
About Your Library
Since 2015, “Your Library” focuses on guiding young creators and has the goal of “All Stories Are Worth Remembering.” It encourages teenagers to write their own stories and create illustrations, culminating in the publication of a collection of stories. Through “Your Library” program, students realize the value of their individual stories and gain confidence as creators by publishing books.
Identifing Problems
“Educational polarization” refers to a situation where educational opportunities are significantly restricted or disadvantaged for specific groups. Through “Your Library,” we encountered various students in both metropolitan and suburban areas, which made us keenly aware of educational disparities. The actual gap in the educational environment between regions is evident not only in academic achievement but also in the experiential aspects of extracurricular activities. Students in specific areas receive consistent benefits, while those in rural areas become isolated. Therefore, to bridge the educational gap, continuous expansion of creative activity experiences should be provided to students in remote areas.
Enhancing Interest and Activation in Education for Local Students, Perpetual Preservation of Stories
The ‘ Your Library’ online platform creates a space where students can write and engage in creative activities. Due to the characteristics of the online platform, it will have good accessibility without regional disparities and will lead to long-term activities. In ‘Your Library’, the children’s stories are permanently archived, and will inspire members. Providing systematic creative lessons, ‘Your Library’ offers vast amounts of writing and interactions with people.
"Your Library" is a service developed to alleviate regional education disparities, specifically targeting rural youth. Users are required to verify their location during registration, and students residing in urban areas are not eligible for membership.
